The Ask
Design a profitable retail space for Polaroid.
THE SITUATION
Polaroid is struggling to stay relevant in the digital age. As social media and digital forms of photography grow in popularity, it is becoming less common to capture and store moments using anything other than a phone. Nearly 85% of all photos are taken with smartphones, and reports show increasingly in younger generations that those who have taken a photo have only done it with a phone, not a standard camera.
DOWN MEMORY LANE
Polaroid is an American company known for its instant film and cameras. The brand creates beautiful, timeless tools to capture the moments that can change your life and the everyday moments that create your life.

At its core, Polaroid’s mission is to help its audience see moments, pause them, and relive them through handheld photos they can turn to forever.

KEY FINDINGS
More than 90% of Americans still own printed photos and many have trouble parting with them.
The sentiment behind having physical photos has NOT changed. The interest in making photos physical HAS changed.
And when it comes to younger generations, there are psychological and physical effects that physical photographs have on children and how they initiate the recollection of key life moments. The printing of physical photographs brings emotional benefits to children and contributes to their sense of identity.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Bring relevance back to Polaroid’s mission and long heritage by creating an immersive space that re-cultivates an interest in instant photography by bringing families together and giving them the tools to capture the special moments.
OUR TARGET
Families with young children
